Technorati moving to a new colo

Technorati's servers will be down this weekend as they move to a new colocation host. I mirrored the API documentation and SDK if you would like to continue developing without the live servers.

Adam is posting pictures from the move on Flickr.

[Update: As of 7 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday servers are back online.]

Old compared to new:

Hi, Niall. I'm curious what you think about Technorati going down for an entire weekend for this move. I'm surprised that they can't stay up during this transition. Seems like you could have both the old cluster and new cluster serving pages for the transition before shutting down the old, making the move completely invisible to users. Your thoughts? By the way, I enjoy your blog very much. Keep up the good work!

Hi Greg, I do not think they have the mirroring capacity or the will to make that happen. This weekend's move was prompted by the colo fire in September. Expect Technorati to come back and talk about how moving to a Tier 1 host means they are committed to being the best and they are already in a good position to be on top for years to come. I was most surprised to not see a blog post from Technorati about their planned outage. For all the people living in their RSS aggregators my post this morning was the only indication Technorati was purposely offline.
